What Conversion Copy Can Do for Your Business

A few days ago I was watching a trailer for a 1940s motion picture. I heard words like “world’s best dancers and most celebrated musicians do blah blah blah to the world’s greatest songs”.
“World’s greatest”.
At a time in history when the internet, Netflix, and social media didn’t exist, a copywriter figured out that you could hyperbolize anything to fill seats.
Today, though, if someone told me that their toothbrush/car/printer was “the greatest”, I’d scoff. And so would you (I hope).
Why? Because “greatest” means nothing when over 100 times a day we’re being pushed products that are just as “empty-adjective-here” as the last one.
Sales is the name of the conversion game.
And as a copywriter, my challenge is to get you, the reader, listener, or viewer, to take action based on the few words I’m throwing your way. Take into account the limited character counts, plus ambiguous knowledge from analytics and qualitative research about who my customer in the digital landscape actually is, and a conversion copywriter’s job can be a complex one.
How do you know it’s working?
There’s so little known about conversion copywriting that it makes sense most teams don’t get the most out of us. We’re new around these parts. And we’re copywriters, but we’re also so much more.
Conversion copywriters are anthropologists, wordsmiths, and marketing strategists all rolled into one person. Our joy is derived from matching the words we write, and the stories we tell, with the customers we’re aiming to engage.
Whether the Call to Action (CTA) is an event registration or an e-commerce purchase, the way you know your conversion copywriter is making a difference is by measuring success.
Metrics. Numbers. KPIs. All those things matter when you consider your new team member a phenomenally scalable salesperson.
And that’s what we are. We are salespeople who can get into thousands of inboxes, browsers, and social media accounts simultaneously.
And if we’re any good, you’ll see results in just a few months after your initial campaigns have been updated.
