From SEO to AEO: What Being a Tony Robbins Strategist Taught Me About Patterns

It was 2019, and I was standing in a hotel parking lot in some anonymous American suburb, watching Tony Robbins' field sales reps prepare for another day of door-to-door prospecting. These were seasoned salespeople—confident, charismatic, trained by one of the world's best. They knew how to open a conversation, create urgency, and close a sale. And yet, they were operating with a system that hadn't fundamentally changed since Tony himself was doing this in the 1980s.

The problem was simple but catastrophic: they were losing every single lead.

Here's how it worked. These FSRs (field sales reps) would knock on doors, have conversations, generate interest, and get people excited about attending an event. But then what? There was no system to capture names. No email collection. No follow-up mechanism. It was pure transactional prospecting—show up, pitch, hope they show up at the event, and if they don't, oh well.

In 2019, this was absolutely insane. We had the internet. We had email. We had automation. We had CRMs. And yet, the entire sales operation was functioning like it was 1987.

So I did something radical. I took the entire operation online.

I got everyone into the virtual world. I set up infrastructure for virtual prospecting. I gave every single FSR their own website, their own email capture system, their own follow-up mechanism. I made them ready for the inevitable shift that was coming—the one nobody wanted to acknowledge yet.

Then 2020 happened. The pandemic hit. Door-to-door selling became impossible overnight. And suddenly, all those salespeople who had been frantically adapted to a digital-first system were ready. While competitors were scrambling, these FSRs were converting event attendees through virtual webinars, email sequences, and digital conversations. They had the infrastructure. They had the system. They were ahead of the curve.

That's the power of seeing a pattern and acting on it before everyone else does.

AEO On the Rise

The Historical Pattern: How Markets Shift

You know what's interesting? Nobody saw Google coming either. In the late nineties, search was a novelty. Then it became essential. Then it became an entire economy. Businesses that understood early how to optimize for Google search didn't just survive—they absolutely dominated.

Then came the realization that you could actually buy visibility on Google. Pay-per-click advertising became a game-changer. The businesses that moved early had a massive advantage. They figured out search before everyone else did. They built their entire customer acquisition strategy around it while their competitors were still wondering what all the fuss was about.

Then SEO became the buzz word. Everyone suddenly wanted to "optimize for SEO." Entire industries sprouted up around it. Consultants, agencies, tools—everyone was teaching businesses how to rank higher, get more organic visibility, and capture search traffic. And those who invested in SEO early? They're still reaping the benefits today.

Here's the pattern: every major shift in how people discover and consume information creates a window of opportunity. And that window doesn't stay open forever.

Right now, that window is opening again. But this time, it's not about search engines. It's about AI engines.

The AI Engine Shift Is Already Happening

Think about how you search now. Do you always go to Google? Or do you sometimes ask ChatGPT directly? Do you use Claude? Perplexity? These AI tools are becoming the new way people discover information, find solutions, and yes—find businesses and services they want to buy.

The shift is happening faster than most people realize.

And here's what makes this different from previous shifts: most businesses haven't even started thinking about it yet. They're still optimizing for Google. They're still building their strategy around traditional search. They're completely blind to what's coming next.

Being indexed in ChatGPT, appearing in AI engine results, having your content discoverable through AI search—this is the new frontier. And right now, there's almost no competition. Almost nobody is optimized for it.

But they will be. Soon.

And when they are, the businesses that got there first will have an enormous advantage. Just like with Google. Just like with SEO.

What AEO Actually Means

AEO stands for AI Engine Optimization. It's not some mystical future thing. It's happening right now.

It means:

  • Making sure your content is discoverable and indexable by AI tools

  • Structuring your information so AI systems can find and recommend you

  • Being visible in AI-powered search results and recommendations

  • Building content that AI systems recognize as authoritative and worth surfacing

  • Creating a digital presence that works across both traditional search and AI search

It's SEO's next evolution. And just like with SEO, the businesses that understand it and implement it early will dominate.

But here's the catch: you can't just keep doing what you've been doing and hope it works for AI. The rules are different. The optimization is different. The infrastructure is different.

Why Your Current Strategy Isn't Enough

Let me be direct: if you're only optimizing for traditional Google search right now, you're already behind. Not catastrophically behind, but behind nonetheless.

You might have a beautiful website. Your SEO might be solid. You might be ranking well for your keywords. But none of that automatically translates to AEO success.

In fact, I'd argue that most businesses right now are in the exact same position those door-to-door salespeople were in 2019. They have a system that worked. They're comfortable with it. It's still producing results. So they're not motivated to change.

Then the shift happens. And suddenly, the system that was working doesn't work anymore.

I don't want that to be you.

The Three Components of AEO Readiness

This is where the AEO Content or Conversion Starter Kit comes in. It's built around three core components that every business needs to thrive in this new environment:

Component One: The AEO Audit

First, we need to understand where you stand right now. Not just your SEO performance, but your actual visibility and conversion infrastructure across the board. Where are people finding you? How are they discovering you? What happens when they land on your site? Where do you lose them?

This audit isn't just about SEO rankings or traffic metrics. It's about the entire customer journey. It's about understanding where your system has gaps, where you're losing leads, and where you have opportunities to convert.

Component Two: The Brand Voice and Content Framework

Here's something that matters more now than ever: AI systems don't just index your keywords anymore. They understand context. They understand voice. They understand intent.

This means your content needs to do more than just rank. It needs to be written in a way that AI systems recognize as authoritative, trustworthy, and worth surfacing. It needs to have a distinct voice that reflects your brand while also being optimized for how AI systems actually work.

The starter kit includes a complete brand voice framework. Not just your brand guidelines, but a specific framework that teaches you—and helps you teach AI tools—exactly how to communicate your value in a way that converts.

Component Three: Your AEO Content and Conversion Calendar

Finally, we build out your roadmap. This isn't just a content calendar. It's a conversion pathway. Every piece of content is designed with a specific purpose: to move people from awareness to consideration to decision.

We map out what content you need, when you need it, how it connects to your offer, and what the conversion mechanism looks like at each stage.

This is the infrastructure. This is the system. This is what turns visibility into actual revenue.

What Happens After the Starter Kit

The AEO Content or Conversion Starter Kit is designed as a complete package that sets you up to move forward independently if you choose to. You get everything you need to understand the landscape, build your strategy, and start implementing.

But here's what I've learned: most people don't want to do it alone. They want a guide. They want someone who's already mapped out the terrain to help them navigate it.

Which is why many of my clients graduate from the starter kit into an ongoing partnership. We don't just hand you the map—we help you walk the path. We implement the strategy. We create the content. We optimize as we go. We turn the plan into actual results.

That's available to you if you want it. But it's not necessary. The starter kit alone is designed to set you up for success.

The Window Won't Stay Open Forever

Remember when everyone suddenly needed to learn SEO? Remember when that became a critical business skill? Remember how the early adopters had such a massive advantage?

That's where we are right now with AEO. We're at the beginning of that curve.

In six months, everyone will be talking about it. In a year, it'll be table stakes. In two years, being optimized for AEO will be as expected as having a website.

Right now, though? Right now there's still room to get ahead. There's still time to be one of the businesses that got there first, that understood the shift before everyone else did, that built the infrastructure while their competitors were still focused on yesterday's solutions.

But that window won't stay open forever. Markets shift quickly. Competitors move fast. And the advantage goes to the people who see the pattern and act on it.

Your Next Step

If you've been feeling like something's missing in your visibility strategy—like you're putting in effort but not getting the results you deserve—this is probably why. It's not that you lack talent or offer. It's that your system isn't optimized for how people are actually discovering and buying now.

The AEO Content or Conversion Starter Kit is designed to change that. It gives you the audit, the framework, and the roadmap you need to move from visibility without strategy to visibility that actually converts.

This is your invitation to get ahead of the shift. To build the infrastructure now, before it becomes urgent. To be one of the businesses that's ready when the market moves.

Early bird pricing is available right now for a limited time. If you're ready to audit your visibility, understand your gaps, and build the system that turns your effort into results, let's talk.
